Equality

Standhill Infants’ School is an inclusive setting where all children, parents and families are welcome.

Meeting the Public Sector Equality Duty

The Public Sector Equality Duty was introduced by the Equality Act 2010 and requires us to promote equality by having due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate discrimination and other conduct that is prohibited by the Act
  • Advance equal opportunities between people who share a protected characteristic and those who don't share it
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who don't share it

The nine protected characteristics are: Age, Marriage and civil partnership, Sex, Race, Disability, Religion or belief, Sexual orientation, Gender reassignment, Pregnancy or maternity. At Standhill Infants’ we teach all of these characteristics to the children in an age-appropriate way through Jigsaw and in assemblies.

At Standhill Infants’ School, we value diversity as an important part of our community and believe it enriches the experiences of everyone who learns, works, and visits our school. We are dedicated to providing equal access to high-quality education and opportunities for every pupil.

Our approach to inclusion is centred on ensuring that all children are supported to achieve their full potential through fairness, high expectations, and a culture of respect. We recognise and celebrate the individuality of each member of our school community and are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels valued.

We actively promote equality and work to prevent discrimination relating to protected characteristics. This commitment extends across the entire school community and applies to pupils, staff, governors, parents, carers, and the wider community.

Objective 1:

To update and improve curriculum provision in order to increase understanding of diversity and equality and for all children to see themselves reflected and celebrated in our school provision.

Objective 2:

To raise the attainment of boys in writing in order to narrow the gender gap.

Objective 3:

To ensure British Values (including Protected Characteristics) and diversity is reflected in the school environment and enrichment opportunities are considered to include and represent varied cultural experiences.
