Reading and phonics are given a high priority at Standhill. Before children even start school, preschool siblings are invited in with their brother or sister to share books with their parents and carers at our Wednesday morning 'Drop Everything and Read' sessions. Once they start school, every child is invited to join the local library on Carlton Hill to develop their love of books and reading. Class visits take place regulary and children can exchange their books and listen to a story.
We even have a school book shop! Every child has a savings card and week by week children save money. Once the child has enough money they are invited to 'Book Shop' to purchase books of their choice.
